Another really great way of registering your protest about the closure and demolition of the Victoria Leisure Centre is to go and talk to your councillors directly. All Nottingham City councillors hold weekly surgeries where residents from their wards can discuss local issues. You first need to check which ward you live in and then to find out where and when your councillor’s surgeries are held.

The details of the surgeries in the two wards closest to the Victoria Leisure Centre are listed below. If you live elsewhere in Nottingham please find out about your councillor’s surgeries on the Nottingham City council website. Even if you live a long way from the Leisure Centre, it is still really important to speak to your local councillors about your concerns.

Victoria Leisure Centre is in St Ann’s ward. There are three councillors for this ward who are Jon Collins (Labour), Dave Liversidge (Labour) and Sue Johnson (Labour). St Ann’s ward surgeries are held at:

St Ann’s Advice Centre, Neighbourhood Centre, Robin Hood Chase
Every Tuesday, 10.30am - 11.30am

St Ann's Library, Robin Hood Chase
Every Wednesday, 6.00pm - 7.00pm

Carlton Road Library
2nd and 4th Saturday of every month, 10.00am -11.00am

Victoria Leisure Centre is also the main leisure facility for the Sneinton area which is in the Dales ward. The Dales ward councillors are David Mellen (Labour), Gul Khan (Labour) and Ken Williams (Labour). Their surgeries are held at:

Sneinton Library, Sneinton Boulevard
Every Saturday, 11.00am - 12.00 noon

Bakersfield Library, Watson Ave
1st and 3rd Saturday in every month, 10.00am -11.00am

Or you can call the councillors directly on:
Jon Collins: 0115 915 5038 or 0115 915 5638
Dave Liversidge 0115 915 5624 or 07507 650 101
Sue Johnson: 07971 026 907
David Mellen: 0115 915 2497
Gul Khan: 0115 915 5657
Kenneth Williams: 0115 847 7513

It is also a good idea to talk to your local MP about your concerns with the proposed closure of the Leisure Centre. MPs hold monthly surgeries in the city centre to discuss issues of concern with their constituents. Again, you need to first find out which constituency you live in to make sure you contact the correct MP.

Victoria Leisure Centre is in the Nottingham East constituency for which the MP is John Heppell (Labour). You can arrange a surgery meeting with him via his website:

Please see the website below for the opening times, a list of facilities and prices. If you have not used the Turkish baths (similar to a steam room and sauna) before, then you really should! Or try swimming in the 33m Gala Pool, book a badminton court or give the gym a go. If you are organising a children’s party, an event, conference or anything else, please consider using the Leisure Centre as a venue. The Sports Hall is a very impressive space.

Please make it your own personal mission to use the centre and tell as many other people as possible to use it regularly over the next nine months. An increase in user numbers will really make a difference!
